A week focused on feature writing and reporting on patch. Through articles on Altrincham Market and poorly rated pubs, I was able to develop my feature writing, interviewing and general news gathering skills.

Bolton News

A week-long placement in which I learned a lot through attending council meetings and court hearings, as well as developing interviewing skills and writing for the Bolton News and Lancashire Telegraph.

A fantastic week in which I developed my feature writing and interviewing technique, with published work on topics ranging from bus strikes to The Matrix.

A week of work experience where I helped to chase leads and develop stories. I also attended news conferences and gained an insight into the workings of a remote newsroom.

Studied for my Master's as well as my NCTJ Gold Standard Diploma, learning about media law, shorthand, and other subjects integral to being a journalist.

2018 - 2021

Lancaster University | BA(Hons) English Literature

My undergraduate degree where I was able to develop my researching skills, as well as being involved in the Executive and Welfare Committees of the rugby team.

Skills
& Expertise

  • NCTJ Gold Standard Diploma including 100wpm shorthand.

  • Video packaging experience including Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • A strong news sense and a good eye for an engaging story in print and online formats.

  • Knowledge of SEO with experience in using programs such as Google Trends to find stories.
